The Mount Rushmore situated near the Keystone Town of South Dakota is famous for a unique and differentiated reason. The mountain has been carved on by Danish American Father- Son Duo Sculptures from the year 1927 to 1941. The Sculptures are the faces of four United States’ Presidents namely – George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. This sculpture is called Mount Rushmore National Memorial and it has been the driving factor for the visitors to this elusive place for past Six Decades on their America tour packages. The Lead Artist “Gutzon Borglum” has said that this monument is a representation of founding, growing, conserving and confederation of United States as a country.
To attract tourism to the Black Hill in South Dakota, the idea of carving these sculptures was evolved. All these four faces played an important role in United States history and this was the reason for sculpting their faces in Black Hill.
George Washington was chosen because of its efforts towards the democracy of United States.
Abraham Lincoln was the 14th president of United States and was responsible for removing the slavery from the States.
Thomas Jefferson had declared the independence of United States.

Some of the interesting facts about the construction of sculptures are that it took almost fourteen years to complete the construction. Almost 400 workers were involved in the process. Each face is of 60 foot in height. It is said that all four sculptures were constructed with the help of dynamites. Almost 450000 tons of granite and rocks were removed from the Mountain Rushmore.
Mountain Rushmore national park attracts approx two million visitors every year during US packages. The sculptures have an advantage as it is located on southeast side and have maximum sun exposure.
